“I’ve worked in housekeeping at SUNY Ulster for five years now. I started out as a substitute, and then I went to working part-time, and now I’m full-time. There are seven or eight of us in housekeeping. A usual shift is 6:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon. I’m usually here at quarter after five, but it’s not a difficult job. I have certain days where I do certain things, and it switches every day. I clean the bathrooms and the classrooms, wipe the desks, clean the chalkboards, and do the sweeping and the mopping. When the students aren’t here, everything is washed — the doors, underneath the desks, and the bathrooms — because you can’t do those things when there are students here. There’s a very good atmosphere here, too. The people are very good to work for, and I’m always being complimented by students about the job I’m doing. Even professors come up to me and say how good the place looks. It’s very nice to hear it!”
