Stories of SUNY Ulster — Bill

“I am volunteering Thanksgiving Day at the Woodstock Community Center. They are having a Thanksgiving dinner there, and it’s for people who have no place else to go. So, I’m going to be spooning out yams or something. I do that, and I really enjoy doing that. I’ve done the same thing in the past for Christmas, and I plan on doing it again this year. I also volunteer at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home. I help them put together a newsletter every month. It’s so fun working and getting to know some of the residents there because their experiences are so interesting. There was one gentleman who said that when he was a very young boy, there was construction being done in Manhattan, and he watched them put the cornerstone of the Empire State Building into place. There was another woman who was a dancer who met a lot of jazz musicians. So, you get to hear these stories and it’s just really great!”
